Hong Kong Journaling
Many of you have joined Art Journaling sessions over the years, many join the Saturday Diving Deeper Retreat Days on Lamma and others come along to our weekly Monday drop in "Joyous Journaling" group. We began to meet weekly in January 2020 and the very first Covid case was discovered here on January 19th. Thus began a weekly art experience which became critical self care in a time of fear, not knowing and change all around the world. Everyone's world was rocked and we watched our lives shift before our very eyes. Navigating all of that each week was really like sailing a life raft in troubled waters and our journaling became part of the life raft helping us to build coping strategies, new approaches, ways to reframe our reality and to handle levels of fear and uncertainty through the pages of artmaking and community support.
Katie’s Contemplations
So here we are still in the relative cocoon of a place that didn't ever go into full lock down. I feel very lucky to have been here in Hong Kong during this time, albeit very far away from loved ones, but I love Hong Kong, it is my home ! My summer has been filled with all kinds of groups and individuals coming here to the studio to make art to honour Hong Kong. Some because they are leaving and others just because they can ! So now I invite you to join a new season of Art Journaling at the Wild at Art Studio.
This year we will be creating a Hong Kong themed journal in which you can explore and express your very own personal experiences and moments. This can be a homage to Hong Kong in the form of your own art work as well as a place to explore your inner world at the same time. Your Hong Kong is not like anyone else’s!
Each monthly theme will allow you to explore an aspect of yourself as you journey through the year, alongside its representation in your Hong Kong Life using your Aesthetic and Physical memories, your Sensory responses and your Personal associations. We will use Mixed Media art making to explore and express.
Over the year there will be a variety of planned monthly themes from temples, neon signs, and festivals to banyan trees, will focus on an element of your life here, and help you to explore that to the fullest. This may involve some little field trips, some sketches as well as reflective writing and art. Do come and join us for a wonderful year of Hong Kong Art Journaling, you create memories and reflect on and distill your Hong Kong Journey.
